Welcome to Contractors School, your trusted partner for obtaining and maintaining your E200 Utah General Electrical License. Our mission is to simplify the process of becoming a licensed electrical contractor, offering our support and expertise to help you succeed.
It’s essential to understand the distinctions between various license types to ensure you have the appropriate authorization for your work. The E200 General Electrical Contractor License is specific to Utah electrical work and does not cover other trade classifications such as General Contracting (B100), Residential & Small Commercial (R100), or General Plumbing (P200). If you’re unsure whether your work falls under the E200 license, reach out to us.
If you’re taking on solely residential work, you may decide to instead earn the Utah E201 license for residential contractors. While E200 allows for work to be done on both commercial and residential projects, the E201 provides a limited scope, restricting you to residential projects only. E201 license requirements remain mostly the same, except you’ll instead need to obtain the Residential Master Electrician license prior to applying.
Earn your Master Electrician license (this is required for getting the E200 classification). Contact us if you need more info on this process.
Note: Since your Master Electrician license already validates your expertise for this classification, additional work experience does not need to be proved to earn your Utah E200 electrical license.
Complete a mandatory 30-hour pre-license course that covers essential topics for the Utah Business and Law exam.

Absolutely, you might qualify for reciprocity or endorsement from the Utah Business and Law exam if you hold an equivalent license in another state, as long as it’s been active and in good standing for at least one year.
The timeline varies, but with our guidance, you can expect a streamlined process. It depends on factors such as completing prerequisites and scheduling the required exams.
Generally, the E200 license allows you to work on various electrical construction projects in Utah, but certain specialized projects may require additional certifications or licenses. We are happy to answer any questions you have about any project restrictions for this license type.
Operating without a valid license can result in legal penalties, fines, and restrictions on future contracting work. It’s crucial to comply with Utah’s licensing regulations to avoid such consequences.
