Designed for subcontractors seeking licensure. This class focuses on fundamental business skills, such as accounting basics, business practices, and general management. It is not designed to address trade-specific technical skills.

  • Who it’s for: Subcontractors (specialty contractors, eg. S280, S350, S220, S260, and more).
  • Cost: $310
  • Textbook fee (optional): $59 (Utah Contractor Education)
  • Cancellations & No-Shows: $25 cancellation fee, $50 no-show fee.

Pre-License Course for General Contractors (30-Hour)

For those pursuing a general contractor license, this class includes everything from the 25-hour contractor license course plus additional prep course hours for the Utah Business & Law exam.

  • Who it’s for: General Contractors (B100, E100, R100, E200, P200, and more).
  • Cost: $395
  • Textbook fee (optional): $59 (Utah Contractor Education)
  • Cancellations & No-Shows: $25 cancellation fee, $50 no-show fee.

Who needs a pre-license course in Utah?

Every contractor applying for a Utah license must complete a DOPL-approved pre-license contractor license course. These classes are offered in 25- or 30-hour options, depending on which license you pursue.

Yes. Utah allows you to take the pre-license course at any time, even if you haven’t met the two years of work experience yet (for general contractors). This lets you get your Completion Certificate ready so that once your experience is verified, you can apply for your license without delay.

No, the State of Utah requires in-person attendance for all 25-hour and 30-hour courses. Classes are offered in Salt Lake City and St George, UT.
